What is a bequest?
A bequest is a gift or donation made through your Will.
There are several types of bequests such as:
- Specific Bequest – a gift of cash or an asset
- Percentage Share – a percentage of the whole estate
- Residual Bequest – how you want the remainder of your
estate to be dealt with after other gifts have been given
- Life Insurance – all or part of your insurance policy can
be gifted to Flinders Perry Telethon Trust.
How do I make a bequest?
To make a bequest you must make a Will. Making a Will is
the only way to ensure that your assets are disposed of as
you would like. It is your final opportunity to express
appreciation to family members, friends and your preferred
charity. The best time to make your Will is NOW. You can
review and update your Will at any time. If you are unsure
how to go about making your Will contact your solicitor.
I have an existing Will, how do I make a
bequest in it?
If you have an existing Will, you can make an amendment
(called a Codicil). This can be easily achieved by
completing the coupon on the make a donation page and having two people
witness your signature that are independent and not
beneficiaries under your earlier Will or this codicil. Both
people must be present together and witness you sign
your Will and each person must see each other witness
your signature in your presence.
Please make sure that any amendment to your existing
Will is checked by your solicitor.
