Is any donation or bequest I make to the Trust tax deductible?

Yes. The Trust had Deductible Gift Recipient Status issued by the Australian Taxation Office. This means that all donations over $2 are tax deductible. If you wish to check this approval the Trust is listed on the Australian Business Register at www.abn.business.gov.au. The Trust is also an Income Tax Exempt Charity.

How do I make a donation to the Trust?

There are a number of ways. Donations may be made by forwarding a cheque with the donation form on the make a donation page. At this time the Trust cannot accept donations by credit card. Donations however may be made by Electronic Funds Transfer and you should contact the Trust Secretary for the Trust’s banking details should you wish to donate by this method. A receipt will be forwarded upon receipt of the funds and should be kept for taxation purposes.

Can I leave the Trust a bequest in my Will?

If you wish to leave funds or property to the Trust in your Will you should advise the person preparing your Will of your intent. You may wish to discuss this option with the Secretary of the Trust who you can contact on the telephone number shown on this brochure. To ensure that the funding you wish to bequest goes to the correct organisation please ensure that the donation is made to the Trust and the name is as shown on this brochure. The Trust Secretary has the wording which you should include in your Will to ensure your wishes are carried out.

What is a bequest?

A bequest is a gift or donation made through your Will. There are several types of bequests such as:
  • Specific Bequest – a gift of cash or an asset
  • Percentage Share – a percentage of the whole estate
  • Residual Bequest – how you want the remainder of your estate to be dealt with after other gifts have been given
  • Life Insurance – all or part of your insurance policy can be gifted to Flinders Perry Telethon Trust.

How do I make a bequest?

To make a bequest you must make a Will. Making a Will is the only way to ensure that your assets are disposed of as you would like. It is your final opportunity to express appreciation to family members, friends and your preferred charity. The best time to make your Will is NOW. You can review and update your Will at any time. If you are unsure how to go about making your Will contact your solicitor.

I have an existing Will, how do I make a bequest in it?

If you have an existing Will, you can make an amendment (called a Codicil). This can be easily achieved by completing the coupon on the make a donation page and having two people witness your signature that are independent and not beneficiaries under your earlier Will or this codicil. Both people must be present together and witness you sign your Will and each person must see each other witness your signature in your presence. Please make sure that any amendment to your existing Will is checked by your solicitor.
